While external motives—however well-intentioned—should not shape the methods and conclusions of research, our motivation behind studying the interactions between Jews and Muslims, as well as Judaism and Islam, is guided by a belief in the capacity of historical, philosophical, and theological disciplines to nurture the highest aspirations of human civilization.
Thus, scholarship is not approached under the illusion of scientific "neutrality". Our academic work is intertwined with the conviction that true peace between Jews and Muslims—across all walks of life—can only arise from genuine understanding: not merely abstract knowledge, but a deeper insight born of heartfelt engagement with those who are both distinct and profoundly connected. On the base of this strong conviction, we see the social output of research as an essential dimension of it.
