Yoav Meyrav's Lecture: "Philosophy on the Arabic-Hebrew Continuum: Between Manuscript Evidence and Material Causality" (18 June 2025, Institute of Languages and Cultures of the Mediterranean, CSIC))
In this talk, Yoav Meyrav outlines several ways in which Hebrew manuscripts function as mediators of Arabic philosophy: from the most general level of preserving texts lost in Arabic, to the most specific level of what can happen to a certain word written in a certain way in a certain manuscript. Sometimes, evidence in Hebrew problematises something that seems uniform if only Arabic materials are considered, and sometimes, events within the Hebrew tradition manufacture pseudo-problems with the text. All this amounts to argumentative fragility on the one hand, and the enriching of a unified tradition on the other.
